Collection: 10 years of the Naughton Gallery
Celebrating ten years since the Naughton Gallery’s first exhibition, Collection: 10 Years of the Naughton Gallery, showcases some of the significant contemporary works in the
University’s art collection.
The Queen’s Collection consists of over one thousand objects collected from 1840 to the present, including paintings, photography, works on paper, sculpture and silver, all spread across one hundred locations. The collecting area for the University Art Collection is global, reflecting Queen’s as an international institution, with a particular interest in Irish artists. The subject area covers works with a strong Queen’s connection: portraits; works from the collections of alumni or benefactors; and works by local and international artists responding to areas of endeavour in common with those of the University.
Whilst the Naughton Gallery has exhibited a significant number of works from the Queen’s University Art Collection since 2001, this exhibition marks the first time that there has been a strong focus on contemporary art, giving audiences the opportunity to see a different side to the collection, with works across a range of media – painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography – some of which have never been publicly exhibited.
